Composition gives proper meaning to the natural streams of sound that penetrate the world.
Scott Lawrence is an American music composer, recording artist, and producer. He grew up in the South, having moved around a great deal before landing in Atlanta, Georgia for a period of time. He has since made Seattle, Washington his home for the past 20 years. His passion for music began at age 5 when he started playing piano. By age 12, he had sketched out several original piano solo pieces that would later evolve into full compositions, orchestrations and cinematic scores.
I Didn't Want to Leave You is magical. The piano/guitar/cello ensemble moving in harmonic tandem is very pretty and quite moving.
Scott's talent stems from a family of musicians on his father's side (Larry Rice), yet having been raised by his mother, he discovered his own propensity to play musical instruments by ear. He matured his gift throughout his youth and while studying music at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. After moving to Seattle, he tackled a more comprehensive program of piano, music theory/composition, and digital audio recording at Shoreline Community College.
Recently, Scott continues writing a large portfolio of cinematic (film music) and electronic dance music (EDM), much of which can be licensed through MIBE (New York City). He has scored short films, contributed to soundtrack recording for video and advertising, and is now building upon his home studio which includes multi-media production as well as vocal recording capabilities. Scott is an emerging gem within the recording industry, a professional asset and supporter of the LGBT community and its musical talent. He’s originated several music videos, worked on numerous collaborative projects, and has produced a variety of singles for upcoming artists, local and international.
Excerpts from his debut album have been described as, "Truly evocative"…"Haunting" and "Well produced."
I’m a composer who writes music primarily for piano. Additionally, I incorporate orchestral and electronic instruments to express complex layers of feelings. My sound has a cinematic nature which paints a scene without words, and also explores modern uses of dance and rhythm.
I express my life’s ups and downs through my music. I create songs from a passionate and sentimental perspective, some rich in a slow sadness and others filled with a fast, upbeat energy. Minor chords, dissonance and simplicity are some key components that drive my sense of innovation. Film composers such as Basil Poledouris and Michael Giocchino have inspired some of my cinematic compositions, while mainstream pop artists like Herbie Hancock and Lady Gaga have influenced a few of my electronic recordings.
For more than 30 years, music has been my second voice—an emotional experience, a journey—each song arriving at a new destination. Along the way, I discover obstacles, surprises, highs and lows, just as in life. Writing music gives me an opportunity to articulate my emotions through easy or difficult times. It has been there for me when no one else could, comforting my loneliness. My absent father, who was also a musician, placed a hole in my heart that only music can fill. My passion grows from a constant yearning to feel love and completion within myself. Music fulfills this through the resonance of the piano - chords, melody, and a nostalgic quality. The volume, tone, and pitch all progress in a touching way to help resolve my own deep inner conflict. I’d like for my music to do the same for others.
I'm always excited about the creative process and open to collaborating with another artist, DJ, vocalist, or film-maker when the project is right.
Enjoy the rhythm.
